There are two types of Japan Rail Passes: Green (for superior-class Green cars), and Ordinary. Each of these types is available as a 7 days, 14 days, or 21 days pass.

The Regional Rail Passes ( JR Hokkaido / JR East / JR West / JR Kyushu) differ from the standard Japan Rail Pass that covers the entire country. Each regional pass covers a particular geographic area of Japan and encourages you to limit your travel to the attractions of that area. These passes may be most advantageous to visitors who have been to Japan before and have seen the main sites of Central Japan.

While the initial price may seem somewhat daunting, the cost benefit of purchasing a Japan Rail Pass is excellent. The cost of just a single Shinkansen (Bullet Train) journey from Tokyo to Kyoto can cost up to half the price of a whole week-long Japan Rail Pass!

A Japan Rail Pass cannot be purchased inside Japan. You must purchase a Japan Rail Pass Exchange Order before you travel to Japan.

After you arrive in Japan, you turn in the Exchange Order to receive Japan Rail Pass at an applicable JR station that has a Japan Rail Pass Exchange Office. Further information, please refer [How to obtain your Japan Rail Pass?].

Shinkansen (Bullet Train) and most limited express and ordinary express trains have reserved Green car seats and both reserved and non-reserved ordinary car seats. A non-reserved seat can be used simply by showing your Japan Rail Pass. Seat reservations can be made without additional payment. To make a reservation, apply at any Travel Service Centre or a Reservation Office (MIDORI-NO-MADOGUCHI) at a JR station, or at a sales office of a JR-associated travel agency. There, show your Pass, and obtain your reserved-seat ticket before boarding. Seat reservations cannot be made before you receive the Pass in Japan.

• The Japan Rail Pass is not valid for any seats, reserved or non-reserved, on "NOZOMI" trains on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines. (The pass holders must take "HIKARI" or "KODAMA" trains). If you use a "NOZOMI", you must pay the basic fare and the limited express charge.

Refund and cancellation policy - Please read carefully before making reservation.

• You must bring the original Japan Rail Pass Exchange Order to our office.
• The Exchange Order must be unused.
• Unused Exchange Order are refundable within 12 months from the issue date but are subject to 25% cancellation fee per order.

• The voucher must be unused and still valid
• Only eligible for passenger who purchases Exchange Order to claim a refund.
• You can get a refund at our office and a refund process will take within 6 - 8 weeks after a claim as forwarded to Japan Rail Office.
• Refund amount is based on the exchange rate of the month when you purchased.
• You are not eligible to claim a refund, if you have exchanged to the actual Japan Rail Pass.
• No Refund accepted for a Lost or Stolen voucher.
