JR East PassThere are two types of JR West Rail Pass : Kansai Area Rail Pass and Sanyo Area Rail Pass.
The pass holder has unlimited use of any standard trains and Haruka [between Kansai Airport - Kyoto] non-reserved seats within the corresponding area.

How to use JR West Pass?

After you arrive in Japan, you turn in the Exchange Order to receive Japan Rail Pass at an applicable JR station that has a Japan Rail Pass Exchange Office. Further information, please refer [How to obtain your Japan Rail Pass?].
How to use reserved seat?
Midori no MadoguchiShinkansen (Bullet Train) and most limited express and ordinary express trains have reserved Green car seats and both reserved and non-reserved ordinary car seats. A non-reserved seat can be used simply by showing your Japan Rail Pass. Seat reservations can be made without additional payment.

To make a reservation, apply at any Travel Service Centre or a Reservation Office (MIDORI-NO-MADOGUCHI) at a JR station. There, show your Pass, and obtain your reserved-seat ticket before boarding. Seat reservations cannot be made before you receive the Pass in Japan.

Additional Information
  • Kansai Area Pas is not valid for any seats, reserved or non-reserved, on Sanyo Shinkansen lines. If you use a Shinkansen, you must pay the basic fare and the limited express charge.
