Takayama Festival takes place twice a year, and during this spring season, the fun and excitement is surrounded by beautiful sakura or cherry blossoms that fill the sight will colour.

This fully escorted Takayama Festival Tour package begins in Osaka and makes its first stop in Kyoto. Here the tour will visit famous landmarks such as Fushimi Inari Shrine, Golden Pavilion, and Kiyomizu Temple. You'll also watch a fabulous kimono fashion show at Nishijin Textile Center where you can even purchase your own from a great selection of kimonos. Heading north, we will take a walk in the beautiful Kenrokuen garden in Kanazawa. The garden is regarded as one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan. Shirakawago in Kanazawa is another landmark and UNESCO world heritage site, preserving farmhouses and culture over two centuries old that can only be experienced here. In Takayama we will explore the old town as well as watch the festival not one, but twice, at day and night to experience both. At Hakone and Lake Kawaguchi you will get a great view of Mt. Fuji, perhaps with sakura in the background. In Tokyo we will take you to Tokyo Tower, Sumida River Cruise, Edo Tokyo Museum, and more.

We will spend our morning traveling from Osaka to Kyoto at which our first stop is the Nishijin Textile Center where you are invited to its dazzling kimono fashion show. Here at Nishijin Textile Center you can also witness the creation of beautiful kimonos and even purchase it along with many other traditional Japanese goods that will make for great souvenirs. Our next stop is the Golden Pavilion, or Kinkakuji Temple, a must see attraction where the two upper floors of the temple are covered in gold leaf. The reflection of the golden temple on the lake adds to the stunning sight. Then the tour will head to Fushimi Inari Shrine, famous for its thousands of red torii gates that lead to the sacred Mt. Inari. Fushimi Inari Shrine is often rated Japan’s #1 destination by tourists and produces gorgeous pictures. Next we will experience some peaceful Japanese green tea ceremony. The ceremony itself consists of many rituals that have to be learned by heart. Almost each hand movement is prescribed. Basically, the tea is first prepared by the host, and then drunk by the guests. We will then walk to Sannenzaka, an area of town with streets filled with Kyotoesque shops, an ideal place for souvenir shopping. This pedestrian only street is a great depiction of what the streets of ancient Kyoto looked like before modernization. In the evening, the tour will head to the Gion Geisha District, Japan's most famous geisha district. This area is filled with shops, restaurants, and tea houses and the area in Japan that you are most likely to run into real geisha and maiko on their way to perform at the Gion Geisha Center.

We will start the day with a visit to the beautiful Kenrokuen Garden, known as one of the three most beautiful landscape gardens of Japan. A stroll along this beautiful garden featuring streams, hills, and everything nature has to offer is sure to calm your soul. We will spend the afternoon at the Gassho Village in Shirakawago, a small farming community of the city. It is declared an UNESCO world heritage site where the old traditional farm homes, gassho-zukuri, are preserved to maintain the beauty of the scenery. Following the sound of drums we will travel up the mountains to Takayama just in time to witness the festival in full swing. Takayama Festival is considered to be one of the best festivals in Japan. Their huge floats will light up the night’s sky with many arrays of color paper lanterns.

Takayama, or as some people call it “little Kyoto,” has many areas where homes and shops are more than 300 years old and well preserved. The morning market is also located in that area and we will explore many vendors and activities. You will have free time to roam around to buy souvenirs, take pictures, or visit other important sight see spots. We will have time to see the Takayama floats in the day time to see a puppet performance from the floats. The portable shrines are also stages to mechanical puppets that people control inside the floats called karakuri. We will then head to the Azumino Wasabi Farm to get a better understanding about the famous sushi garnish. Afterwards we will head back to Tokyo but with a side trip to Matsumoto Castle. This castle is one of the very few original castles that were kept intact and never destroyed. Also its unique black coloring gave its nickname karasu-jo, the Crow Castle. It’s one of three must see castles in Japan and ranked on the top 100 in the world castles. Today’s hotel is located in the banks of Suwa Lake. The ryokan, Japanese hotel, contains variety of onsen, hot springs, which you can dip in and relax. Dinner is provided in traditional style of kaiseki, a Japananese multi-course cuisine.

Our day begins with a visit to the famous Kubota Art Museum, where you not only can fine amazing Kimono on display, but also a wonderful view of Mt. Fuji. We will continue our journey to Hakone. We will then take a ropeway to Owakudani, an active volcanic crater still steaming from its last eruption some 3,000 years ago. There you will get a taste of the local Japanese food, the black egg, cooked in one of the craters. Before our day ends, enjoy a relaxing ride on the Hakone Ropeway. We will then head to Tokyo.

Our day starts off in the Edo Tokyo Museum where you can get acquainted with the history of Tokyo. We proceed to Asakusa, the old town district of Asakusa – shop around the Nakamise Shopping area and pray at the Sensoji Temple. The tour will also stop by the famous Meiji Shrine located in Shibuya. While in Shibuya, we will explore Shibuya Crossing, one of the bussiest intersections in the world. We close off our day with a visit to Tokyo Tower, Japan's former largest tower before Skytree was built.
